How is it with your soul? John Wesley, the founder of Methodism would often ask this question at the opening of small group meetings.
I think you'd agree that it's a lot more insightful than a mere, "How are you doing?"
May you ponder how it is with your soul at this moment. If this is unsettling to you; if you have fear; if you honestly don't know; that's okay! God knows you intimately and understands where you are. More importantly, despite the condition of your soul... God loves you anyway!
Many people tell me they're too sinful to come to church. Some say they have a checkered past. Others believe the walls will come tumbling down if they ever set foot in a church. Maybe you want to wait to get your life together before coming to church.
Friend, these are all INVALID excuses for not meeting God and God's people this Sunday!
You see, we're all sin-sick. None of us have our life together. Most of us have things in our past that we're not proud of. But that's the point of church. It's not a dwelling place for the righteous in society... it's where the soul-sick, world-weary, and those who are sick and tired of being sick and tired come to meet God.
God is the healer. God is the forgiver. God is the one who wraps us in his loving arms and says, "It's okay, son, I know what you're going through and I can help you." "It's alright, daughter, I've been where you are and I'm here for you. I'll provide you hope and assurance that we can get through this together!"
The God we serve is mighty and powerful, but more than that, God is loving, filled with mercy and sheds grace upon every one of us... even you!
I encourage you to join us this Sunday morning to experience the transforming love of God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
